Ice Cubes Ok, I know I haven't been on the list very long and I'll probably get flamed like hell for telling you all this, but I just can't resist. When we first got Esau we were under the false impression that all dogs love ice. We repeatedly tried to give the pup pieces of the stuff to eat, but he just was not interested. Eventually we gave up. "Well," we said, "he's weird." (our first clue) "He just doesn't like the stuff." Several weeks (perhaps months) later my husband and I were lounging in front of the Redskins game of a Sunday (as we are wont to do) with our bourbon and cokes. Esau seemed bothered. He would come over to my end of the sofa and stand right in front of my drink .... giving it "the stare". When this action did not have the desired effect, he would go over to my husband and repeat the process. Evenutally, we thought to ourselves Duh, maybe he wants some ice." Stranger things have happened. We gave the dog an ice cube. "Dang." thought the amazed Esau, "This stuff is gooooood." To this day, Esau will not eat a regular ice cube, yet begs until the ice is gone when we drink bourbon and coke. Flame away if you want ... we are creating a need for Canine AA, etc, etc but he adores the stuff and seems to suffer no ill effects. In fact, I think it makes him enjoy football season much more than he otherwise would. Lynnette |

| The funniest, though was my previous Bouv,
Gabriel. My husband's parents were visiting from Holland and they brought a brand of
Genever (a Dutch gin) with them ... a brand not available here and in a higher proof than
what is. My father-in-law sat his glass down and Gabe investigated with nose and tongue
... as Bouvs are wont to do. I swear the dog's eyes crossed. His lips skinned back from
his teeth and he ran to dunk his nose in the water bowl. <G> We could get him
to'smile'for us after that by showing him the bottle. |
