Examples of "Santos" of Puerto Rico.  Most of these are 12-18" high painted with muted colors which didn't scan well.  My small collection of about 25 are generally about 100 years old. I love them because they represent peace and faith, two items we don't have enough of in the world.  There are much more elegant & complex examples of this craft, done by country carvers, which can be found in private collections.  The more current samples of this native craft are carved for tourists & have little intrinsic value.  Click on any image for a larger photo. updated 12.17.00 08:37
