ADDING TO YOUR GROOMING ARSENAL
Excerpted from BouvLovers Email List
July 2004

My mom found a great addition to my arsenal for my ongoing battle with Nikki's grossly excessive undercoat. The new weapon is an Evolution undercoat rake with 360 degree rotating pins. Even though I use the Mars Coat King to heavily muck out Nikki's undercoat, using a normal rake for normal grooming is still quite a chore and not too friendly to my slightly arthritic hands.

The difference in the rake with the rotating pins and a regular rake is like night and day. It's cut my raking time more than in half I have a different brand comb with rotating pins I use for Nikki's armpits, beard and face but it is made of low-quality plastic and the handle snapped off the first time I tried to use it on Nikki's undercoat.

This is a picture of the Evolution products.

I have the regular undercoat rake with 20 pins. It doesn't pull out much in the way of undercoat but just  does an excellent job of easily getting fully down to the skin for every day grooming. I also find  there is a lot less "catching" or pulling. My guess is the 39 pin double-row rake would probably do a good job of keeping dead undercoat cleared out for a Bouvier with a sane amount of coat where a Mars Coat King is overkill.

I hope there is a special place in heaven for breeders who have stuck to their guns and refused to follow the hair monster trend.
