 One Rescue Tale

 No-name Bouv Girl
 Mia Animal Control
Died Dec 13, 2001

Nov 14  This is the girl from Miami Animal Control. [...] she isn't doing too well, tonight will be critical for her! Margret is all set up to get her on IV's, antibiotics, and vitamins as soon as she gets her home!  - Terry

Nov 15  She has a case of Parvo, is on IV 24 hours, please pray that she will make it, she is around 6 to 8 month old, very sweet girl. If there is somethink like a god i hope he will hear me. - Margret Meier

Nov 15  She is now at the vet's office on IV's. Margret was up with her all night, and gave her IV's every two hours, so she made it through the night. Margret has named her 'Miracle'!  - Terry

Nov 16  'Miracle' ( her new name) is still in the Vet, 24 hours I.V. They did an X-ray today & found some strange material in her stomach area. So the vet wants to keep her over the weekend on I.V. They may have to do surgery on Monday.

I visited her today, she is too weak to pull up her head but she wagged her tail a little bit. She is such a sweet little baby, please please pray for her that she can fight Parvo and whatever else she has. - Margret

Nov 19  Good news, 'Miracle' is worth her name. She is stable now, she's eating alone and if everything goes ok she gets her stomach opened on Thursday. I visit her today and for the first time she walked with me on her own feet. She started eating alone and I am very proud of my girl. I hope that I can bring her home this weekend. - Margret

Nov 20  I have attached some pictures of 'Miracle'. She is hanging in there and every day she is happy to see me. If ''Miracle'' makes it, she will have really lived up to her name.

She is a Bouvier, As you can see, her head is bigger then her full body. She is only 34 pounds, only bones, she is 24 inches high. - Margret

Nov 25  'Miracle' is still in the hospital, no surgery yet because she is still too weak. I am so hoping that she will be able to come home next week.  It is now 3 weeks that she is there, but she is improving a little bit from day to day.

My vet thinks that she is not ready for surgery yet, so we have to wait and pray.

This will be a very expensive rescue dog.  But if you could see her, how she behaves, you would know she is worth every cent! - Margret

Nov 27  Good news. Miracle survived 4 hours of surgery on her stomach. 2 vets operated & they found pieces of a natural sponge in her stomach. Normal dogs can live with this for only a few days but she survived possibly more than 4 weeks with this inside her.

Dr. Jeyapaul told me that this was a very old method that people use to kill dogs. They put the sponge in blood or something else that a dog likes & feed it to them.  So poor Miracle -- someone may have given it to her or she found it in the garbage while she was on the streets in Miami.

I visited her today & she was back on the IV again.  She hardly could move her head but she licked my hand.  I was in tears seeing her in pain. I know it will be over for her soon & Dr. 'J' promised that I can take her home Saturday afternoon.

Then I will make her so comfortable that she will forget all her pain. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I should let her suffer any more or if it would be better to end her pain but I could see in her eyes that she wanted to live so I made this decision.

If you see Miracle you all will know that she is a special dog.

She will be ready for her new home possibly in one or two months but Terry & I will make sure that she gets the best.

Miracle is possible 7 months old & she's had go through the hell but now it is her time to get love & attention for rest of her life & I know she will give it back.

So lets start searching for the perfect home for her! - Margret Meier

Dec 13:  Our little Miracle, after fighting a valiant battle with Parvo, and surviving the operation, was just not quite strong enough to make it any further. Margret visited her daily, and the last several days, she had taken a turn for the worse, Margret had just about made the decision to help Miracle say good- bye. When Margret made her last visit Miracle was so happy to see her, she even got up the strength to wag her tail. Margret asked Dr. Jayapaul for a few last minutes alone with her, she curled in Margret's arms, and took her last breath! She was waiting to say good- bye to her friend, who had tried so hard to help her. Even Dr. Jayapaul cried for Miracle, and he is a very stoic man!

Do you want to help? Miracle  was the fourth Bouvier to die out of Miami Dade Animal Control [...] Margret [found] the origins of all these Bouviers in Miami, they are being sold at a pet store called "The Bird Cage" & advertised as big guard dogs that don't shed! She found out they buy them from the Hunte Corporation, some puppy mill breeder in Missouri. [...]  We are getting more & more backyard breeders here too, we can't stop them [...]
