THE BOUVIER KNOCKS TWICE
One
cold January afternoon here in Wisconsin our furnace
decided it had
had enough and just quit. So we called a company to come
and install a new
one. As my Father and I sat at the kitchen table with the
furnace guy,
hashing out the details, the back door bell rang. Would
you mind letting the
dog in? I asked the guy, who looked up at me like I was a
few sandwiches
short of a picnic. Let the dog in? he asked. Yes please,
that's him at the
door I replied. Let it ring again then go and open the
door. A short time
later the bell rang again and the man stood up and opened
the door to find a
frozen faced Bouvier looking up at him as if to say what
took you so long?
The furnace man was amazed and spent the rest of the
afternoon telling his
crew about the whole experience.
Brody, the Bouv in question, would throw himself at the
back door with
all the grace of a Greenbay Packer to announce that he
was ready to come in.
One day he pawed at the doorbell and it rang, something
he thought was pretty
neat. So with a bit more coaching he learned to do each
time he was ready to
come in, well at least until he smashed the bell into
retirement....
